CTLS – DESIGN & SAFETY

Engineers designed the CT with safety, performance, and comfort, in mind. Modern aircraft should be built with modern technology. Carbon fiber-epoxy aircraft construction offers unparalleled strength, durability, and corrosion and fatigue resistance.

The carbon-aramid composite safety cell helps to protect the pilot and passenger. The engine mount and carbon fuselage attach points reduce the possibility of engine intrusion into the cell. Standard four-point harnesses, together with crushable elements of the fuselage construction, absorb energy and reduce possible loads to the pilot and passenger. Strong windshield-uprights and massive upper construction complete the protective environment. Fuel tanks are sensibly located in the wings, well away from the occupants.

The wide speed range and high structural margin of the CT gives peace of mind, even in the strongest weather conditions. Tested and certified to perform up to 600 kg, the CT really can take the load, and haul it.

The CT has been subjected to numerous static tests and complete flight-testing as part of the certification to major Airworthiness Standards, including:
Germany: BFU/LTF
USA: S-LSA – FAA
UK: BCAR Section S – CAA

Each CT is fully flight-tested by our Flight Design test pilots. It is flown again after being reassembled, and then checked by Flight Design trained experts, in the country of destination.

Parachute
For additional safety, the CT is fitted with a BRS Parachute System, as standard equipment on all aircraft.

Aerodynamics
The optimal shape of the fuselage reduces drag while cleaning the airflow to the stabilizer. The wings use an efficient airfoil, and advanced winglets reduce induced drag, improving climb, cruising range and aileron control at low speeds. The CTLS fuselage is 35cm (14 inches) longer, increasing pitch stability and dampening, significantly. Aerodynamic changes to the CTLS have greatly improved its stability and ease of flying. While the top speed of the CTLS is impressively high, the CTLS flies with efficiency and low fuel consumption at all speeds.

Structure
The CT is made from the very latest carbon fiber construction, with rigid foam core and epoxy matrix, with vacuum technology. All supporting structure consists of carbon and/or aramid fibers. All materials are from Western suppliers, and correspond to either DIN or Aviation standards.

Durability
The CT is finished in a two-part polyurethane paint, which is very UV-resistant. Beautiful and easy to take care of, the CT finish will last for years, when properly maintained.

Helicopter Visibility
The large comfortable cabin and excellent visibility of the CT gives the feeling of being in a helicopter, making flights more enjoyable, and providing an excellent environment when learning how to fly.
